The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Special Advertisement No. 51/2026 for direct recruitment by selection to the administrative posts of Principal and Vice Principal in the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi.
UPSC Delhi Principal & Vice Principal Recruitment 2026. A total of 828 permanent Group ‘A’ Gazetted posts are being filled through this recruitment drive. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online via the official UPSC portal from 25th July 2026 to 14th August 2026.

Vacancy Details
A total of 828 vacancies are distributed across the Principal and Vice Principal cadres, including category-wise and gender-wise reservations:
Note on OBC Reservation: OBC reservation is admissible only to candidates who submit OBC certificates issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi. OBC candidates with certificates from other States/UTs will be treated under General/Unreserved category. Out of the total posts, 7 Principal posts and 28 Vice Principal posts are reserved for PwBD candidates.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification & Experience
- For Principal Post:
- Educational: Master’s Degree from a recognized University/Institute AND Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized University/Institute.
- Experience: 10 years of teaching experience (as Vice Principal, Post Graduate Teacher, or Trained Graduate Teacher) in a recognized High School / Higher Secondary School / Senior Secondary School / Intermediate College.
- Desirable: Doctorate Degree OR Experience of administrative charge of a recognized High/Higher Secondary School.
- For Vice Principal Post:
- Educational: Master’s Degree from a recognized University/Institute AND Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized University.
- Experience: 2 years’ experience as Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) OR 3 years’ experience as Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT).
Age Limit & Relaxations
- Principal: Maximum 50 Years for UR/EWS.
- Vice Principal: Maximum 35 Years for UR/EWS.
- Category Age Relaxations:
- OBC (NCT Delhi): Upper age limit relaxable up to 3 years (53 years for Principal / 38 years for Vice Principal).
- SC / ST: Upper age limit relaxable up to 5 years (55 years for Principal / 40 years for Vice Principal).
- PwBD: Upper age limit relaxable up to 10 years (Subject to maximum upper age limit of 56 years).
- Ex-Servicemen & Central/UT Govt Servants: As per Central Govt guidelines (up to 5 years relaxation).
Application Fee & Payment Mode
- SC / ST / PwBD / Female Candidates (Any Community): ₹0/- (Exempted)
- General / OBC / EWS Male Candidates: ₹25/-
- Payment Mode: Online through Visa/Master/Rupay Credit/Debit Card, UPI Payment, or Net Banking facility of any bank.
Selection Process
The selection process consists of two stages:
- Combined Recruitment Test (CRT):
- A Pen & Paper-based Combined Recruitment Test will be conducted on 01st November 2026.
- Duration: 2 Hours (100% Objective Multiple Choice Questions).
- Maximum Marks: 300 Marks.
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd (0.33) marks deducted for every wrong answer.
- Test Centres (15 Cities): Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam.
- Interview / Personality Test:
- Shortlisted candidates based on CRT performance will be called for an Interview.
- Minimum qualifying/suitability interview marks: UR/EWS – 50, OBC – 45, SC/ST/PwBD – 40 out of 100 marks.
- Final Merit Weightage:
- 75% Weightage for Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) and 25% Weightage for Interview.

- Complete account registration or Universal Registration Number (URN) profile setup.
- Fill out the Common Application Form (CAF) and capture your Live Photo as instructed.
- Upload three clear signatures (signed one below the other) in black ink on white paper.
- Complete the post-specific application module for Principal or Vice Principal.
- Upload required self-attested documents in PDF format (10th certificate for DOB proof, Master’s degree, B.Ed degree, prescribed format Experience Certificates, Caste/EWS certificate, Photo ID card).
- Pay the application fee of ₹25/- (if applicable) using available online payment options.
- Submit your online application prior to the deadline and print out the final application form for future reference.
