Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Essential: A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.
- Final Year Candidates: Candidates who have appeared or intend to appear in the qualifying degree exam can apply provisionally, provided they produce proof of having passed the exam within two months from the commencement of this exam.
- MBBS / Medical Candidates: Candidates who have passed the final professional MBBS examination but have not completed their internship are provisionally eligible, provided they furnish the final degree/internship completion certificate at the time of the Personality Test.
Age Limit & Relaxations (as on 01-01-2026)
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 35 Years
Permissible Age Relaxations:
- 5 Years Relaxation: For SC of H.P., ST of H.P., OBC of H.P., Persons with Disabilities (PwD) of H.P., and Children/Grand Children of Freedom Fighters (WFF) of H.P. (applicable only if a post is reserved for the respective category).
- H.P. Government Employees (Substantive / Officiating / Contractual):
- HPAS, Tehsildar, BDO & Treasury Officer: Upper age limit up to 45 years.
- HP Police Service & District Controller: Upper age limit up to 42 years.
- Ex-Servicemen of H.P.: Relaxations admissible as per H.P. Government rules.
- (Note: Reserved category candidates from other states will be treated as General / Unreserved candidates without fee or age concessions).

Selection Process
HPPSC HPAS Recruitment 2026. The HPAS Combined Competitive Examination-2026 consists of three successive stages:
- Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening Test – 400 Marks)
- Paper-I: General Studies (100 Questions, 200 Marks, 2 Hours duration).
- Paper-II: Aptitude Test (100 Questions, 200 Marks, 2 Hours duration). (Qualifying paper with minimum 33% marks required; marks not counted for merit).
- Negative Marking: Deduction of one-third (1/3rd) marks for every wrong answer.
- Candidates qualifying the Prelims (approx. 20 times the total vacancies) will be admitted to the Main Examination.
- Stage 2: Main Examination (Written Test – 8 Papers)
- Compulsory Papers: English (100 Marks), Hindi (100 Marks), Essay (100 Marks), General Studies-I (200 Marks), General Studies-II (200 Marks), General Studies-III (200 Marks).
- Optional Subject (2 Papers): Paper-I (100 Marks) & Paper-II (100 Marks).
- Candidates must obtain at least 40% in each compulsory paper (English & Hindi) and 45% in aggregate to qualify. English and Hindi marks are qualifying and not counted for final ranking.
- Stage 3: Interview / Personality Test
- Carried out to assess intellectual qualities, mental alertness, leadership traits, and knowledge of H.P. culture and dialects. Final selection is based on the combined marks of the Main Written Exam and Personality Test.
